Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies represent an important evolution in computer science and data processing that is quickly transforming multiple industries. In this session the presenter will discuss some of their novel applications to RFID and wireless sensor networks. On the healthcare side, we will discuss how simple and cost-effective sensors can be used to reliably predict patient falls and detect human activities. On the smart agriculture side, we will talk about how real-time sensors can be used to improve the harvest quality by automatically controlling and optimizing the soil conditions such as moisture content and conductivity. On the transportation side, we will explore how wireless temperature loggers can be used to ensure optimal precooling conditions as well as provide unprecedented insight into the transport conditions of perishable produce to predict instantaneous and future marketability of products. On the passive RFID side, we will discuss how straightforward ML tools can be used for grid localization with passive RFID tags using simple read rate and RSSI measurements even when there are metal obstacles on the grid.
